GBE2: Favorite Things

Next week my boys head back to school. This time of year stirs up all sorts of fun memories for me. The excitement of heading back to school to see friends again. The anxiety of meeting a new teacher. The fun of shopping for school supplies...

Is it just me, or does a brand new box of crayons just smell delicious? It's one of the sweet smells of childhood. I remember getting my first box of 64 Crayola crayons, with the sharpener in the back of the box. So many colors to choose from! I remember loving the tiered design of the box because it meant that I could see all of my options at once. I still remember the names of some of my favorite colors: Cerulean, Plum, Red Violet, and of course, Silver. And don't even get me started on the sharpener...coloring bliss!

  1. I'm with you! I still love the way that the back-to-school aisle at the store smells.

And how about the smell of a school lunchbox? Ahhh. Makes me want to buy myself a lunchbok and pack myself a kid-lunch every day for a few weeks, just to cultivate that smell.

  2. I am so hooked on the smell and look of a new box of crayons that I will buy my grandkids new crayons whenever I see worn edges! Never used up an entire box, ever!

  3. Oh yes, new crayons are wonderful. I love a newly sharpened #2 pencil too. I really need to do more coloring with my girls before the crayons disappear all together. They'll be replaced with flash drives before we know it.
